Wike dashes hopes of second tenure for incumbent LGA Chairmen

…”Operation Show executed projects in your LGA. No more to ‘we are Governor’s Boys,”and very loyal to the party”.

BY IBRAHIM BAKARE

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has dashed the ambition of some  incumbent Local Government Chairmen to seek second tenure.

Wike has made it clear to the local government Chairmen and party leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  that one of the major criteria to secure a second tenure ticket to recontest election is to show executed projects as concrete proof of performance.

Our Correspondent reports that out the 23 local government Chairmen only a very negligible few have Projects to show for their three years on the saddle. Besides collecting taxes and levied which are usually not accounted for.

A close party source said some of them have the erroneous belief that one of major  qualifications for being there in the first place has been because they are fall under the category of “Governor’s Boys” ,and so second tenure is as good secured”.

The forthcoming local government election into the 23 local government areas in State is scheduled for April this year. Incumbent Local Government Chairmen are constitutionally eligible to seek re-election for another three years if they secure nomination from their party.

Wike who cited himself as example,  warned that he cannot be going around Commissioning projects and some of the incumbent Local Government Chairmen are following him  without any project to Commission and they are hoping that call themselves “Governor’s Boy”, will guarantee them second intenure.

Governor Wike gave the warning while speaking during the Commisioning of the Phase 2 of the Isiokpo Internal Roads in Ikwerre local government area on Wednesday, January 13 said: “You are following me around to Commission project is not a guarantee to get ticket. In fact, I don’t see you. To qualify for April 2021 Rivers State local government election,is going to be “Operation show your Projects. I will not listen to; this your Boy is Loyal”.

He stated further; “I can not be suffering, going everywhere commissioning Projects, and also you have to show is “I am Governor’s Boy”. Something is wrong with you fundamentally.

“Let me state clearly today to every Leader, let no body come with “any Boy” to come and run Elections because he’s your Boy. I don’t want to hear it. All I want is someone who can make impact in their Local Government, and improve the Chances of PDP winning Elections in 2023.
