US based healthcare organization provides for vulnerable

A United States of America USA based non-profit and non-governmental organization, has expressed commitment to providing healthcare and life-enhancing services to vulnerable populations in Nigeria.

The organization Gïft Health Plus GHP Inc. partners with the National Human Rights Commission NHRC Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service, in protecting and promoting the rights of inmates in Nigerian prisons, with emphasis on healthcare.

Declaring their mission, the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission, Chief Anthony Ojukwu, SAN, maintained that right to health is one of the focal areas of the commission with the goal.

“To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.
commended Gift Health Plus team members and solicited them to continue to give care to vulnerable populations, such as treating detented inmates with compassion, empathy and professionalism.

Also in his speech the Coordinator, Rivers State office He was represented by the state coordinator, Rivers State office of the National Human Rights Commission.

The Executive Director of Gift Health Plus, Dr. Chamberlain Nwanne said.

“We subscribe to the notions that basic healthcare is a fundamental human right, and because most prisoners will return to the society as sick, or as healthy, as the society makes them, while they are incarcerated, that prison health is public health, with far reaching public health implications”.

” As such, our prison outreach focuses on providing direct care to inmates at regularly scheduled visits, to augment the services provided at the detention centres.

He examined that health services are intended to supplement care provided at the correctional centres, such as : eye care and reading glasses, basic health screening and medicines to inmates and staff.
