Tricycle drivers in Yenagoa protest torture of its member to coma

Tricycle Operators in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, on Friday, staged a peaceful protest over the beating of one of their members  to the state of coma by Officers of Federal Road Safety Corps,FRSC.

They took to the streets of Yenagoa to protest and refused to carry passengers.

Some of the tricycle operators who spoke alleged that the victim was stopped by a personnel of the Corps for allegedly overloading his vehicle.

The challenge by FRSC officer led to an altercation and fisticuffs between him and the officer before the said Tricycle Driver was physically assaulted.

They called for justice for their member and  called on the Bayelsa State Police command to investigate the matter and ensure the personnel involved are brought to book.

The stated the law enforcement agencies maltreat them by either physically assaulting them,board their Tricycles and refuse to pay or extort them constantly on daily basis.

Commissioner of Police, CP, Ben Okolo,who granted them audience  assured them that their grievances have been heard and incident would be investigated. He appealed them to stop the protest and continue their normal business.

They were also addressed by State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization, Nengi James, who also assured them that the issue will be followed up to ensure that their member will get Justice.
