Tension in Rivers Community as Gunmen kill over 21 Cows

* Herders call for justice, bemoan loss

Tension is brewing in Odogwa community in Etche local government area of Rivers over killing of 21 cows by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting to death the cows remain hazy. Among the dead cows, 15 of them were said to be pregnant.

However, the Chairman of Miyehtti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Rivers State, Mohammed Abubakar, who disclosed the attack in a chat with Journalists said the incident happened when the cattle rearers had gone into town to get some beverages when the gunmen attacked the cows killing 21 with 15 already pregnant.

Our Correspondent reports that incident has generated uneasy calm in community as it is feared that there may reprisal attack from the Fulani herdsmen who are already calling for justice.

The market price of total loss is about Eight million and Four hundred thousand naira only (N8,400,000) at the cost of an average adult cow put N400,000 each.

Both the Rivers State Police Command and the Etche local government Council had not reacted to the attack and monumental loss to Cattle Breeders at the time of filing this report.
