SENATOR MAGNUS ABE’S LONELY ROAD TO 2023 RIVERS APC GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

By Emeka Amaefula

The race to Rivers state 2023 governorship election has begun very early as the All Progressives Congress—APC’s National Working Committee –NWC had fixed September17th, 21st and 28th, 2019 for Wards, Local Government Area and state Congresses as a way of accentuating the collateral damages of 2018 congresses which a court of Competent jurisdiction voided and nullified. Fear is only necessary but a tool for genuine warfare and politics is a serious war no one would like to be defeated by any means. So, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe’s reaction to the current move by APC’s National Working Committee-NWC is correct as a member of the same political party being loyal to the leader Rt. Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi which he had vehemently pronounced publicly. And going back to the Court for Interim Injunction stopping the coming wards, LGAs and state Congresses remains his personal right as a loyal party man and senior one indeed as he claimed that not enough consultation was done by the leadership of the party as a Senator his voice and contributions ought to be heard even though it might be a minority view hence resorting to early litigation has consequences.

Immediately the leader of APC in Rivers state Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi retorted that his party would go for early congresses senator Magnus Abe’s immediate reaction was ignored even by the NWC at Abuja. Psychologists do say that abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is a synthesis of a normal behaviour and Senator Abe’s lieutenants including the authentic Party chairman Honourable Comrade Peter Odike had aligned with the Mainstream Rivers APC leadership with Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at the helms of affairs. So, the question now is, is Senator Abe lonely on his road to Rivers state 2023 Governorship election? No-one will play God to tell what will happen in 2023 but Senator Abe is not rushing for verdict that will jeopardize his party’s electoral value at the polls come 2023 but he may be on the verge of helping his party become more democratic by playing an all-inclusive game of carrying majority of the members along. And this is the prayer of Comrade Peter Odike when he paid courtesy visit to Chief Victor Giadom the National Secretary of APC at Abuja with the appointment of Isaac Abot Ogbogbula as a Caretaker Committee Chairman as he said “I also congratulate members of the Caretaker Committee headed by Isaac Abot Ogbogbula on their appointments. I hereby advise the committee to be fair, democratic and firm. The public may be reminded that our position has always been to open the democratic space. Posterity will hold the Committee responsible if it fails to do so. I also urge all members (in Rivers state) to embrace this opportunity for us to be the formidable party that we all yearn for”.

A group of APC members loyal to Senator Magnus Abe under the aegis of Rivers state APC Visionary Media Team—RAVIMT with Comrade Robertson jack as Director General did allude that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole National chairman of APC is “desecrating the temple of democracy by using his position as National Chairman of the party to sponsor anti-democratic practices”.

The road to 2023 Rivers state APC battle for governorship race is now on and no-one knows who will be beneficiaries of this battle of wits and political intrigues like battle royal for the fittest.
