Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, may have appear very calm and calculating even in the faces of daunting challenges as his administration faces a lot of criticism and cold war amongst his party members especially those loyal to the F.C.T Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike the governor’s erstwhile political benefactor.
But, in the midst of all the political wrangling the governor somehow is not sleeping onboard the sailing ship as he is tactically building his political structure ahead 2027 even though the year is still far from insight.
At home, Sir Fubara is still facing opposition from the 26 lawmakers who defected to the All Progressive Congress and loyal to his former boss and scores of those in the opposition All Progressive Congress (A.P.C) led by Chief Tony Okocha, a board member representing Rivers state in the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Recall recently Chief Okocha has accused the Governor of doing little in spite of the huge allocation accrued to the state, but was swiftly rebuffed by those loyal to the governor.
Against the backdrop, the governor has been accused of pulling down the legacies of his successors especially the Rivers state House of Assembly complex along Moscow road built by the administration of Dr. Peter Odili even as the erstwhile governor is believed to be among the political mafia behind his steady political rise.
The building was pulled down at the wake of the political crisis that engulfed the state at the instant of the instruction by the state Governor for a more befitting complex to be built.
However, the demolition did not go down well with the opposition and some human right groups who have viewed the demolition of the complex as a callous loss of taxpayers money.
The demolition of the Assembly complex somehow attracted some criticism from the Governors fiats critics that have not seen anything good in the Fubara led administration.
The demolition of the shopping mall along Port Harcourt Aba Expressway, built in 2007 by the six-month administration of Barr. Celestine Omehia, is another issue facing the governor who is yet to explain to Rivers people why the legacies of his predecessors are now the target of his administration.
Also, the Psychiatric Hospital in Rumigbo is also among property listed for demolition by the administration of Governor Fubara administration and these have somehow called for a counter even though the governor on his own is yet to make any statement while he is insisting on going against the principles of his successors.
Unconfirm report has it that a number of projects, especially some of those built by the administration Barr. Nyesom Wike are also on the list of projects to be demolished soon.
