The authentic Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has approached the Federal High court in Port Harcourt, seeking for declaration as the rightful candidates of the party in the state in the coming 2019 General elections. While speaking to his teeming supporters at Port Harcourt few days ago he said.
“We have approached the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to declare us as the rightful candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.” this declaration includes other candidates in Direct Primaries for State House of assembly seats, Federal House of Representatives seats and Senatorial seats in Rivers State All Progressives Congress-APC.
This as Abe has urged his supporters to accept the invitation of the National reconciliation committee of the party if invited.
Senator Abe who insisted that his faction of the APC who participated at the direct primaries held across the 23 local Government Areas of the state remains the rightful candidate of the party, stressed that no other court judgement has countered the judgment delivered by the state High Court in their favour over the congresses conducted by the Rotimi Amaechi’s led faction of the party in Rivers.
Speaking at the party’s stakeholders meeting held yesterday in Port Harcourt, Abe said “Despite the ongoing Appeals, the judgement of the High Court delivered in the state is however valid. According to the constitution of Nigeria, everybody is entitled to obey the judgement of the court unless it is set aside by a superior court. So as it stands today, the judgement of the Rivers State High Court is the existing position of the party in the state.
“In the light of that facts therefore, the candidates of the party who were elected in the direct congresses that were held by members in the state in which over 144, 000 members of the APC across Rivers State voted for me and for other candidates.“
The Senator representing Rivers South East District also urged members led by Comrade Peter Odike and supporters to accept the invitation of the National reconciliation committee of the party if invited, adding that since they are loyal to the leadership of the party they will therefore accept the peace settlement
Abe added that as loyal party members they will go and tell the committee of what really happened in the state, stressing that the issues before them has gone far as anticipated and therefore they will arm the Committee on the true situation.
“We decided that for the sake of this party, for the sake who have invested their lives into APC in Rivers State, we must do whatever we can to see that the party is not destroyed in the state.
“Yesterday, (19/11/2018) the party issued a statement directing all those who have cases in court to withdraw them and setting up a reconciliation committee for each of the geopolitical zones of the country including the South South zone where we belong. That Reconciliation Committee I believe is headed by the Governor of Osun state, very important person in the party.
“I want to appeal to everybody, we are loyal members of APC and if we are invited by the Committee to hear from us, I think that we should be very eager to take our case before the party, actually to play what has been happening in Rivers State APC.
“We continue to insist that the crisis in APC in Rivers State was totally unnecessary. It was uncalled for and there was absolutely no need for it. But people in their own to satisfy whatever ego drives men at every point in time, created artificial disunity among members of the party”, Abe added. The setting up of the reconciliation Committee by National Working Committee of APC has been seen by Senator Abe as a welcome relief as he never wanted to challenge anybody but the one-man leadership approach by the Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who visited him at his Abuja home and humiliated him in the front of his wife prompted his insistence to contest in the Rivers state APC Governorship Primary election which he had won.
