The Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, has called on the Rivers State House of Assembly to repeal the Rivers State Pension Act, which gives ex-governors choice houses and huge financial packages in the state and anywhere in the country.
The Spokesperson of CLO in Rivers State, Sunny Daba, said this while addressing Journalists in Port Harcourt.
Sunny Daba said repealing the law will reduce wasteful spending of the state’s resources on already privileged elites and former political leaders in the state.
The Spokesperson of CLO in Rivers State, Sunny Daba, also asked former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, to withdraw the perpetual injunction he secured from the court that prevents EFCC from investigating the financial records of Rivers State.
He said that the court injunction is now giving state officials the opportunity to waste Rivers funds.
Sunny Daba also said that the CLO will partner with civil society organisations to force the EFCC to vacate the perpetual injunction.
It would be recalled that at twilight of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration an executive Bill was signed into law to build Houses for former Governors and their deputies in any State of their choice, provision of personal securities and other financial packages.
At the 74th birthday of former Governor Dr. Peter Odili, the state government gifted him with a choice house at the old GRA, Port Harcourt.
