Record Breaking: Adebule Becomes First Lagos Deputy Gov. Heading For Senate

Former Lagos State deputy governor who served meritoriously under the Akinwunmi Ambode administration, Dr. Idiat Adebule has proven to be an irresistible political amazon not only in the state, but in the entire country. The mercurial political Lioness was elected Senator to represent Lagos West Senatorial District. With this great achievement, Dr. Adebule has emerged a record breaker by becoming the first woman after serving as Lagos deputy governor heading to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

Recall ex-deputy governor Kofoworola Bucknor Akerele once served as Senator representing Lagos
Central Senatorial District in 1992, the period in-coming president Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented Lagos West, before she deputized the latter in 1999, but Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule stands as the first to be elected Senator after serving as Deputy Governor.

Dr. Adebule won the 2023 Lagos West senatorial election, polling 361,296 votes to defeat her main challenger of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale, who scored 248,653 votes.
