Protesters defile Governor Wike, Protest as Police trail behind them

To Wike: *You spend so much state funds campaigning against FSARS, personally took part Public protest now you ban same Protesters from expressing ourselves“.

Peaceful Protesters today refused to be cowed by the ban by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Even when about 12 Police vans were stationed at the Pleasure Park the converging point for the peaceful protesters, as early 8 am, they had gathered at the Pleasure Park which is directly opposite Governor Wike’s campaigns office along Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway.

At exactly 9.45 am Police Officers with their vans started seen trailing behind the Protesters who  trekking  towards the Port Harcourt Town with destination Government House and the Rivers Police Command.

Chanting solidarity songs the Protesters lashed at Governor Wike accusing him of starting the campaign against #End SARS by complaining about FSARS brutality in the State before and after elections in the state.

The Protesters  said they are aware that the Wike’s administration spent Millions of Naira on paid advertisements asking for the Prosecution of the former FSARS Commander ACP Akin Fakorede and supported and personally took part in peaceful protest against alleged Police brutality.

As the Protesters move from Pleasure Park  towards the Rumuola to  Government House many more Protesters joined singing solidarity songs.

Before the Protesters started moving they were addressed by Senior Police Officers who reminded of the ban order by the Governor but that they were not there to disperse them as long as they are Peaceful.

In response, the Protesters assured that they will be peaceful. They however lashed at Wike.

“You cannot tell us only during elections to wear our Jeans and T-shirt to defend our votes to keep you in Power because you claim Policemen aid and abet election rigging but today, you ban us from protesting against their brutality.”

“We must move and engage on peaceful protest. It’s our right under the Constitution. Even President Muhammadu Buhari’s Daughter supports in the peaceful Protest against Police brutality”.

“All we are saying give us freedom.Freedom of movement… freedom of speech. Freedom to own Phones, Laptops and dress the way we want….. Freedom from Police brutality.

“Brutal Policemen should go to Sambisa forest. Enough is Enough”

At the time of filing this report the over 500 Protesters have joined on their way to Government House Port Harcourt and Police Headquarters, Moscow road, Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike had banned protest with the excuse that the Police headquarters Abuja had dissolved SARS.
