Presidential primaries start April 4, other matters from INEC timetable

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the revised timetable for next General elections earlier today following the signing of new Electoral Law yesterday by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The new Electoral law will guide the conduct and management of the election. Politicians and many civil society groups have mounted pressure on in the last couple of months to sign what has now become the new law.

Below are the key highlights of the timetable released by INEC today.

(1) Political parties will start the process to pick their presidential candidates from April 4 and they are expected to end it by June 3, 2022.

(2) Political parties must submit nomination forms for their presidential candidates from June 10-17

(3) Last day for withdrawal of candidates and replacement is July 15, 2022.

(4) Political parties will start campaign for elections from September 28, 2022. All campaigns for presidential election will end February 23, 2023

(5) Presidential Election Day is February 25th, 2023
