BY ERIC OLUSESAN

As early as 7am, about 15 Police vans with hundreds of Policemen barricaded all the major entry points to the Isaac Boro Park. Both under the popular Mile One Flyover and atop of it were chocked with Policemen were sparsely armed.

Enefaa Georgewill, Chairman, Rivers Civil Society Organizations who is one of Coordinators of the #RevolutionNow protest, spoke to the Policemen and who mounted a barricade told Journalists that what they are protesting about concerns their welfare too. He said that it is a common knowledge that they are compelled to buy their uniforms, pay high electricity tariffs and high pump price for Petroleum products.

He said the peaceful protest is to highlight the frustrations of Nigerians over bad governance by select few since the 60 years of independence.

Also Speaking, a Port Harcourt based humanrights lawyer, Higher King, also said that they decided to address the Nigerian people and the ruling class over suffering in the land, and bad governance.

Addressing the Policemen, he said: “You’re equally suffering. You are poorly paid, you spend money to buy your uniforms. I know what it costs buy uniforms. I have bought for friends and relations in the Police. You people have been directed to stop us from using Isaac Boro. We won’t force ourselves to break the barricade because you are our friends”

He also enumerated the sufferings Nigerians are going through.

The Policemen who are mostly unarmed were polite, but firm in carrying out the orders not to allow the protesters gain entrance to the Isaac Boro park.
