The ruling Peoples Democratic Party-PDP in Rivers state is taking its bid to have their members participate in the June 16th, 2018 LGA lections by scheduling internal Primary election for Councilors and Chairmen from the 22 Local Government Areas and 319 electoral wards in Rivers state.
The Primary LGA PDP primary election took place at Rivers East on Monday 16th, April, 2018 while Rivers South East on Tuesday 17th of April, 2018 as Rivers West took place on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
But there was a twist as Governor Wike unilaterally cancelled the contestants list from Degema Local Government Area while Ikwerre Local Government Area PDP primary election was also canceled irrespective of the facts that Wards and Units voters gathered in vain without seeing electoral materials as alleged winners went on celebration galore drinking and acknowledging cheers from their supporters.
Elsewhere in the state there were allegations that some PDP top wigs hijacked the electoral process by making sure that their candidates emerged from the contests either as a consensus candidate or manipulating the electoral process.
