ONDO HOTS UP AS TOKUNBO MODUPE LEADS OTHER ‘REBELS’ AGAINST AKEREDOLU

BY KAZEEM BISIRIYU

As the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State takes new dimension on daily basis, top political strongmen in the state are braving up for yet another epic battle between the ruling APC and the major oppositon, the PDP. However, one man that should be given proper attention to prior the election is Tokunbo Modupe, founder TPT International and a chieftain of the PDP. Toks, as he is fondly called may not portray a lousy image politically, but his past democratic antecedents in the state since the emergence of ex-governor Olusegun Mimiko who won a court battle against the late Olusegun Agagu can never be swept under the carpet. The involvement of Toks was so glaring and visible such that close watchers of that 2008 scenario viewed Toks as one of Mimiko’s pillars. The Ute, Owo-born public relations mogul, media icon cum politician disposed all supportive materials in his artillery to stand as a rock of Gibraltar, urging Mimiko on against the late Agagu. Tagged as a ‘Rebel’, Toks is indeed a man who controls a massive support both in his constituency and Ondo State in general and is ready to once again deplore his absolute support for Eyitayo Jegede at the forthcoming guber race against the incumbent governor Rotimi Akeredolu. For now, the question on the lips of every Nigerian political enthusiasts is, will what happened in Edo State reoccur in Ondo? Only time will tell but with political strategists like Toks working side by side with Jegede, anything can happen.
