The former Chairman local government area, Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, a diehard ally of the Transport Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been elected the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State at the state congress of the party.
His emergence replaces Chief Davies Ikanya as Chairman.
APC and Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who is the leader of APC in Nigeria’s South South region, and his think-tank may have settled for Ojukaiye Flag Amachree not only for his loyalty to the despite pending court for trials for alleged murder by the Rivers State government.
It would be recalled however the Senator Magnus Abe’s supporters boycotted the congress insisting that there is a subsisting court injunction.
Ikanya has been APC Chairman in Rivers State since it was inaugurated in 2013.
The choice of Ojukaye who is from the Riverine and Rivers South West senatorial district and a well-respected grassroots mobiliser and die-hard Amaechi supporter, enjoys widespread respect within the APC in Rivers State.
Leyii Kwanee, former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers Assembly and an Ogoni like Abe has however hailed the emergence of Amachree insisting that this emergence brightens the chances of an Ogoni Governor.
Would have brightened the chances of Senator Abe emerging as the flag bearer for the Governorship ticket but for his standoff with the party and Amaechi.
“Besides Abe there are other credible Ogoni Sons and daughters who are qualified to contest for the seat of Governor”.
It is not clear yet clear how the political chess game would be planned in the days, weeks and months to come.
