Oil Thieves May Regroup Against Rivers 23 LGA Chairmen

…As State Gov Wants Police To Provide Security

By: Our Reporter

Since a week ago when the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, declared war on illegal Refinery, as well calling for  destruction of every identified illegal crude oil bunkery and artisanal sites, the fight against this has taken a new dimension with the Obio/Akpor Local Government Chairman George Ariolu, almost becoming its first casualty if not for the grace of the Almighty.

What makes the Obio/Akpor Chairman almost the first hit was his breakthrough to one of  the illegal bunkery site at the heart of the city that pitched him against some officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSDC).

Eye witness, told the Towncrier that officials of the security agency has resisted the chairman and his team when they came to confirm whether their dumpsite was used by  illegal refinery operators as a cover up.

Our source, further hinted that the chairman Ariolu, had on reaching the dump site alerted newsmen of the alleged deals and cover ups of the ” Kpofire ” operators, using security operatives as their shield.

Inspite of  indictment of officials of the NSDC, by the Obio/Akpor chairman, NCDC has since debunked the claims, insisting that the site in Ogbogoro community in the  LGA was not a bunkery site.

However, with the full scale war against oil thieves, we have gathered that the oil thieves  may regroup and launch and attack on their perceived enemies.

So far, the Towncrier investigations had shown that the prices of kerosene and other staple products used for domestic cooking has gone to a roof top: and causing panic amongst some average family users.

More so, the state governor has also asked the Commissioner of police, Mr.Eboka Friday, to provide adequate security for local government area chairmen as they embark on mass destruction of illegal refinery sites across the state.

With the development, is not yet clear of the next plot by those that engaged in the activities, as many advocate groups continued to speak aganist the danger of soot in the state.
