Obaseki uncomfortable with appeal court ruling for high court to hear his certificate forgery case

…cancels all scheduled meetings in Benin

…lands Abuja in local flight after emergency meeting with Deputy, SSG

…As factional APC chairman, Ojezua, supporters defect to PDP

Edo state Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has just landed Abuja in an AZMAN AIR local flight, which is not his usual trend of boarding private jets to and fro Benin.

A source confirmed that Obaseki who was looking tensed immediately after the court of appeal dismissed his application for stay of further proceedings on his certificate forgery case in the federal high court met with his Deputy Philip Shaibu and SSG Osarodion Ogie, and was said to have cancelled all meetings he had earlier scheduled for the day, as a result of the unperceived ruling in the court of appeal

The Governor’s hastened movement to Abuja is rumored to be connected to the appeal court ruling asking him to go and defend his alleged certificate forgery case.

It can be recalled that the all Progressives Congress (APC) and a chieftain of the party, Williams Edobor, had filed a suit against Obaseki, accusing him of forging the first degree certificate which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enable him contest the election.

They also claimed that there are discrepancies in the subject Obaseki claimed he passed in his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam.

The governor had asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to suspend the case indefinitely on the grounds that he had filed an application at the appellate court.

Through his counsel, Ken Mozia (SAN), he had challenged the competence of APC’s reply to his defence. He asked the court to remove some paragraphs in the plaintiffs’ statement of reply.

But in a ruling on December 2, 2020, the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, dismissed the governor’s motion.

Obaseki subsequently appealed the judgement, causing the judge to suspend the case at the lower court indefinitely on Tuesday.

At the appellate court on Wednesday, the court asked the governor to return to the lower court for continuous hearing of the suit against him.

How he intend to intervene and influence the decision of the court to rescue himself from his alleged certificate forgery is yet unknown as it is becoming even clearer everyday that passes that there’s something seriously fishy about the Governor’s certificate

Although it is also rumored that there are plans by the Governor to defect back to the APC, but considering the recent removal of his ally the former chairman of the Edo state chapter of the APC who stayed back in the party to cause unrest and chaos have altered his plan, his next move and decision is yet unknown.
