Ize-Iyamu to appeal High Court ruling disqualifying candidacy

…expresses confidence of justice

…sues for calm amongst supporters

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in last year’s Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is appealing a High Court ruling nullifying his candidacy alongside running mate, Hon. Gani Audu, in the tightly-contested guber race which remains subject of litigation over contended discrepancies in the academic credentials of the declared winner, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City had on Wednesday, January 6, disqualified the candidates of the APC over alleged infractions contained in the documents submitted to INEC by the Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Gani Audu.

However, in a press statement, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu described the ruling as “unfortunate and utterly wrong”.

“I have already instructed my Counsel to appeal against the judgment, as I am convinced that the Court of Appeal will dispassionately consider the facts presented before the Court and arrive at a just decision in accordance with the law,” he said.

He also urged his supporters in the state and beyond to remain calm and law-abiding, while expressing confidence that justice will prevail in the matter.
