INEC probes  about 10,000 PVC’s abandoned inside drainage in Rivers

Residents of Rivers State, especially those of at Apa-Ogwu Estate in Rumuodara community in Obio-Akpor local government area are alarmed at the discovery of about 10,000 of Permanent Voters Cards, (PVCs) abandoned in a drainage yesterday.

Thousands of Permanent Voters Cards PVCs abandoned inside inside gutters in Apa-Ogwu Estate, in Rumuodara, Obio-Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

The  abandoned PVCS were stumbled on while residents of Apa-Ogwu Estate in Rumuodara were clearing the debris blocking gutters in area.

A resident of the Estate, Samuel Osondu, told who spoke to a Port Harcourt based radio station said the Voters Cards were found on Wednesday morning during the cleaning of the Estate’s drainages. 

He said on close examination of the cards showed bore the potential names Voters with the registration of areas such as Iriebe and Rumuokoro, all under the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

When contacted, the management of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers was on the shocking discovery, the officials they will make their findings public after concluding an ongoing investigation of the incident.

It was learnt that the PVCS where stuffed in sacks and abandoned under culverts inside the drainage.

Osundu had told the radio station that immediately the information about the discovery of mysterious PVCS leaked in a viral video,some persons who claimed to be Staff of  Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area came to scene  later picked up the cards that were emptied into baskets.

The top officials of Obia-Akpor Council who were contacted but pleaded anonymity because of what is considered ” a sensitive   issue” claimed ignorance of reportedly abandoned PVCS found in a drainage and nobody from the Council was ordered to evacuate Cards from the drainage scene.
