Ibim Semenitari, former MD, NDDC dumps All Progressives Congress (APC)
Daniel Efe/Port Harcourt.
Ibim Semenitari, a former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and former Commissioner for Information and Communications in Rivers State has dumped All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mrs. Semenitari, is a devout ally of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, immediate past Minister of Transportation, Amaechi appointed her as Commissioner for Information and Communications, and was also instrumental to her appointment to her as MD, NDDC.
Her resignation from APC was contained in a resignation letter she addressed to her Ward 5 Chairman in Okrika Local Govt Area of Rivers State.
Our Correspondent reports that inside sources indicate that she informed her former boss, Amaechi about her decision to dump the party.
It was not clear what the Amaechi’s response was to her resignation.
Semenitari supported and joined in the campaign for the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s bid to pick the Presidential Ticket of APC. But Osinbajo came third during the Presidential primaries.
However, this brings to two the number of former Commissioners of Information that served under Amaechi as Governor who have resigned from the party.
Months ago, Hon. Nwuke Ogbonna, a former Information Commissioner, and later a member representing Etche-Omuma federal Constituency and until his resignation, Spokesman for APC in the State also resigned from party more a year ago.
Recall the Dr. Dawari George, Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee of APC, former Lawmaker who represented Akuku-Toru and Asari-Toru federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and former Commissioner of Energy and Natural Resources under Amaechi also dumped APC two days ago.
In her letter of resignation Mrs. Semenitari wrote:
“I wish to withdraw my membership of the All Progressives Congress APC with effect from today.
“I appreciate the friendship, camaraderie and appreciate and opportunities that that this platform has provided are to serve my State, region and country even as I wish the party well.
“Please be assured of my regards.
However, in the reaction of a Veteran Journalist, Bonny Sampson, he described the gale of resignations as typical of Nigerian Politicians who live within the dictum that in Politics it is personal interest first.
According to Sampson, “All these men and woman now departing from APC today makes no breaking news. What’s behind the departures is blowing in the wind far beyond what the ordinary eyes can see today.
When the going was good, it was all chummy abi?.
He further said: “They can never be honest enough to disclose the crux of the matter which of course hovers around enlightened self-interest that has been hurt along the lines. When the hitherto feel-good relationship was on, who did it help other than between them. Now that that interest has gone South, lets hear word abeg!,” Bonny Sampson said.
