Have left APC officially – Ex-party national legal adviser, Banire

A former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN) said officially he has ceased to be a member of the ruling party.

“More than a year ago, I think I have ceased to keep what I call bad company. As far as I’m concerned, I have left the party officially, because I’m a man given to the rule of law. Once I don’t see rule of law exist anywhere, I quickly take my leave because I won’t wait till the house collapses on my head.

Remember they even said they had expelled me, which I gladly accepted (laughs). I’m not one of the scavengers in the political arena, so we are all on the same page now,” Banire, who was twice commissioner in Lagos both in the administrations of Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Raji Fashola.

The 53-year-old said he left the party due to alleged systemic erosion of rule of law in it, and was not mulling over joining the opposition because the equation are the same in all the parties.

He however, added that he would support his estranged former principal, Tinubu, in the event the former governor is in contention for 2023 presidency.

“Of course I will, if he wants me to support him. I have worked with Asiwaju directly and that is why I could tell you I would support him. We have had what I would call a challenging relationship in recent times due to what I consider to be the activities of saboteurs who profit from conflict.

I call them political scavengers. Gaining each other’s confidence is still a challenge; maybe with time we would be able to build it. That is why I said if I’m invited,” he told the paper.
