Governor Wike bans all forms trading around Okoro-nu-Odu Flyover under construction in Port Harcourt

*Directs security agencies to confiscate goods, arrest and prosecute adamant traders

Rivers State Government has directed security agencies to arrest any trader who display goods around the Okoro-Nu-Odu Flyover in Obio-Akpor LGA, with effect from Monday, 23 November 2020.

In a Press Statement signed by Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike, Media on behalf of the State Government warned that Security agencies have also been directed to confiscate their goods.

According to the Statement:”The Rivers State Government hereby warn that any trader who flouts this directive will be prosecuted in pursuant to relevant Sections of the Rivers State Street Trading, Illegal Markets and Motor Parks (Prohibition) Law 2019.”
It would be recalled the Governor Wike has announced that the Okoro-nu-Odu Flyover which one among the Six under construction in Port Harcourt will be commissioned in next month, December.

Our Correspondent gathered Governor who has been visiting the area found out that Illegal Street Traders who spread their wares on all the available spaces  around the Okoro-nu-Odu Flyover even frustrate earth moving equipments of Julius Berger workers on site. 

There are even reports that the illegal Traders and Street vendors have constantly been engaging altercation with Julius Berger Engineers and technical crew on site slowing down the project.
