Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has forwarded to the Rivers State House of Assembly a supplementary budget of N220Billion, which was read today, Friday June 30.
In a letter sent to the lawmakers and read at plenary today by the speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule the Governor is seeking the fund to execute the proposed Port Harcourt Ring Road Project.
The House of Assembly has given first reading to the supplementary appropriation bill.
Leader of the house, Hon. Edison Edison, in his contribution had argued that the supplementary budget was necessary because the 2023 appropriation law failed to capture the fund for the ring road project
Edison Ehie further said the amount appropriated by the 2023 budget was inadequate to fund the ring road project hence the need for the supplementary budget adding that the project, which he describes as well intended would fast track development in the state
The addition of the N220bn supplementary budget to the existing budget would bring the entire 2023 appropriation law to N744bn
The house has adjourned siting to Monday 3rd July.
Our Correspondent reports that the Governor had announced that his administration will construct a Port Harcourt Ring Road which interconnectivity will help ease traffic gridlock help ease of businesses in the state.
