Former State Lawmaker, Eligwe, dumps APC, blames Amaechi

Daniel Efe/Port Harcourt.

The gale of resignations  from the All Progressives Congress, APC, continues, as another former State Lawmaker, Dr. Chigbo Sam Eligwe, has dumped the party.

The former Lawmaker who represented Ahoada West State Constituency blamed his exit from the party on the fact that the total control of the party is centered around Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and Presidential Aspirant.

According to Eligwe, “since 2015, he watched  the party being run as a Fiefdom where one individual has complete control over all decisions regarding party positions, employment opportunities and contracts. This is definitely not democracy being practiced.”

His letter of resignation that was addressed to,

The Chairman, All Progressives Congress [APC], Ward 10, Ahoada West Local Governments Area.

Eligwe recalled that he joined the Rivers State All Progressives Congress in 2013 with the hopes of creating a political power that will serve the needs of my people and Constituency.

He said he envisioned a political party where all people are treated equally regardless of age, educational achievements, status, or ethnicity, with the hopes that all people would be given equal access or opportunity for political participation.

According to him, “Unfortunately, this was not the case and I can no longer standby and watch helplessly. Therefore, due to the above stated reasons, I hereby wish to resign forthwith, my membership of the All Progressives Congress, [APC]”.

Just like others who had resigned before him, he did not indicate which political party he was joining.
