The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo has sacked Ademola Adeleke and declared Gboyega Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun State.Adeleke won the eligibility contest but lost his governorship seat on the grounds of over-voting.
The tribunal had declared Adeleke eligible and qualified to contest the July 16 governorship election
But in a split document of two to one, the tribunal said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,931 against Adeleke’s 219,666.
The majority judgment was read by the Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Tertse Kume.
Kume said the July 16, 2022 governorship election did not comply with the Electoral Act.
He added that there was indeed over-voting in six local government areas in the state.
