Members of media crew of deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu were on Monday ordered out of the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub-venue of the ongoing 60th anniversary celebration of Midwest Referendum in Benin by aides and security operatives attached to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The ejection of the media crew was the latest drama in the political face off between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy and Shaibu,
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the media crew of the embattled Deputy Governor were seen being ordered out of the venue of the event by security operatives attached to the office of the Governor.
All efforts made by the Deputy Governor to make sure they remain in the venue were futile as he was told by the security men that it was “instruction from above.”
At that point, Shaibu could be heard saying he could not be in an event where his media crew is barred. He subsequently left the venue.
A member of the media crew who confined in our correspondent, said they were already at work inside the hall when the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Andrew Okungbowa and the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Governor, Ms Osarumwense Margaret Ojo, identified the crew members one after the other before security men of the Governor walked them out of the venue.
It will be recalled that the Deputy Governor suffered similar attack and humiliation in the hands of the security personnel attached to the Governor on Sunday, at the 32nd anniversary celebration of the creation of Edo State, a development that attracted public condemnation.
Calls made to Mr. Okungbowa for a clarification yielded no result as the calls failed to connect.
