Breaking: Kamala Harris picks Walz

 

Vice President Kamala Harris  has on Tuesday, named  Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her running mate for the coming November  presidential election.

The Democratic Party presidential candidate had earlier interviewed Walz,  Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro  to help her decide on who would be the vice presidential candidate.

The 60-year old Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, is expected to brighten the chances of Harris defeating  former President Donald Trump.

Walz  had served served 12 years in Congress before becoming Minnesota governor in 2018.
He is known to have been a champion of progressive policies such as  protecting of  abortion rights, legalisation of recreational marijuana and restriction of  gun access to curb shootings.

Walz  who was raised in Nebraska, enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1981, after graduating from high school.

He later attended Chadron State College, where he graduated in 1989 with a degree in social science education.

He was elected to the Congress  in 2006 and re-elected five times. He served as ranking member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee before he left the American legislature.
