A Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State, Dr. Dawari Ibietela George, a former federal lawmaker who represented Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru federal Constituency from 2011 to 2015, has resigned from the party.
Dawari George until his shocking resignation, was the Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the party and a diehard ally and leading supporter of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation.
He was also one of the Governorship Aspirants who lost out when the 19 Leaders of the party adopted Tonye Cole and the consensus Governorship candidate.
Dr. George’s resignation is contained in personal letter addressed to the Chairman, APC Ward 1, in Asari-Toru local government of Rivers State.
Dr. Dawari George was also a past Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, during the Amaechi’s administration as Governor of Rivers State.
George in his letter of resignation of his membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) reads:
“May I also thank the leadership of the party and all her members for the opportunity and support given to serve the state and the country in different capacities during my time in the party.
“I will always cherish the friendship and brotherhood which enforced our camaraderie in the party.
“Please accept the assurances of my best regards.”
Our Correspondent reports that there has been a political mood swing in the party since the alleged “imposition” of Tonye Cole as the Governorship candidate by the Amaechi. Even though there was an open party primaries some of top party members are aggrieved.
The prominent APC Chieftains who have so far dumped the party include: Hon. Golden Ben Chioma, former Leader of Rivers Assembly and Senator Magnus Abe faction of APC, Comrade Celestine Akpobari, Marvin Yobana and now Dawari George. The hidden underlining reason is alleged poor leadership of the party and the lack of “good reward system”.
