2023: ‘Like Abiola did to Tofa in 1993, Tinubu will defeat Kwankwaso in Kano’
Kano State Information Commissioner Muhammad Garba has said history will repeat itself in the 2023 general election when the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will defeat former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The commissioner recalled that the presidential candidate of defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), the late Bashorun Moshood Olawale Kashimawo (MKO) Abiola, defeated his National Republican Convention (NRC) counterpart in the 1993 poll, the late Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, in Kano State.
Garba spoke at a lecture organised by Kaduna League of Veteran Journalists, with the theme: Let’s Talk Nigeria, in partnership with Arewa House and Hamdala Hotel in Kaduna.
The commissioner, who is a former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said: “I know the former governor of the state is also going to be on the ballot. But history will repeat itself again in Kano because the late Moshood Abiola of the defunct SDP defeated Kano-born late Bashir Tofa of the defunct NRC during the 1993 presidential election.
“I’m confident Kano State will produce lots of votes in 2023. The votes from Nassarawa Local Government of the state alone is more than the votes of the entire Southeast combined. I’m confident we will deliver Kano State to APC, in shaa Allah (God permitting).”
At another event in Kaduna, the National Coordinator of Tinubu Support Movement (TSM), Aminu Shehu said the movement was working towards getting 16 million votes for Asiwaju Tinubu.
Shehu, who spoke through TSM’s Kaduna State Coordinator Aliyu Bashir while inaugurating the groups’ executives and opening its new office in Kaduna, said they were targeting 2.5 million votes for APC governorship candidate, Senator Uba Sani, and all other candidates of the party.
He said the movement in Kaduna as well as other 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was busy canvassing for votes for APC to win at all levels.
Also, winners of the popular Spelling Bee competition and One-Day Governors in Lagos State have promised to support Asiwaju Tinubu to win the presidential election.
The competition was initiated in 2001 by the wife of the former governor, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to produce the most brilliant secondary school students across the state.
In a statement yesterday, the former one-day governors acknowledged Asiwaju Tinubu’s efforts at revolutionising the aspiration of every student in the state when he was the governor.
They said these included the support he gave the youth-focused competition.
