Growing Tension Mount …As Etche Lawmaker Escaped Assassination Attempt

There seem to be growing tension rocking Etche Local Government Area, over who control the council.

Just last week, supremacy battle over who control the council took a new dimension, when the leader of the legislative Assembly, Hon. Cynthia Nweke, allegedly escaped assassination attempt at  Okehi, the Local Government headquarters.

Impeccable source from the area had claimed that Hon. Cynthia Nweke, is a strong loyalist of former commissioner of Sport, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ruling party in Rivers State, Hon. Allwell Onyesoh.

According to an eye witness, the incident occurred at noon, causing panic and pandemonium within and around the council Secretariat and community where the LGA is situated, as passers by and staff’s of the council who came to work on that fateful day were spotted by our correspondent who visited the council for the first time scampering for their safety.

The incident happened at the gate entrance of the council Secretariat, when the leader and some of his aides  were returning to Port Harcourt, after the screening of some newly appointed supervisory councilors and others.

The list of the supervisors was submitted to the legislative Assembly by the Chairman, Hon. Obinna Anyanwu, also a son of another popular PDP chieftain in the area for confirmation and approval .

This publication can authoritatively report that the lawmakers had successfully screen all the supervisors and were sworn-in accordingly before the incident occurred. But, from all indications, no casualties was reported.

Informed source in the area, said, trouble started when the leader, took the mace and allegedly put it into her vehicle and was about driving back to Port Harcourt after the day legislative job.

A reliable source from the council had told our man that the move to take the mace along was part of an agreement with other councilors for safe keeping.

But, what became unknown to her was that, some thugs alleged was led by the CSO to the chairman, popularly called Shino, laid ambush on her.

The source hinted further that immediately they sighted her car coming toward the council gate, the thugs quickly mobilized and locked the council’s gate and stopped her from leaving the council premises and in the process, there was fracas. The thugs pounced on her and  smashed her car rear windscreen and window glasses.

So far, picture and video of the incident has gone viral in all major internet platforms, with most people calling on the state governor Bar. Nyesom Wike to wade in with a view to resolving the issue.
