Illegal artisanal refining of petroleum products popularly known as Kponfire has resurfaced in Ibaa and Rumuekpe in Emohua local government area of Rivers State.
Several reports of its resurgence in the two localities has compelled Chidi Lloyd threaten to wage war against them with all means within his power, particularly those engaging in illegal oil refining activities in Ibaa and Rumuekpe communities.
Dr Lloyd disclosed that his local government administration would soon start a clampdown, confirmed that the illegal oil refining has actually resurfaced in these communities. He said anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Dr Lloyd also called on security agencies and traditional institutions in Ibaa to be conscious of these illegal activities in their domain. He said any building identified for storage of illegal oil products will be seized.
It would be recalled that the Governor Nyesom Wike had declare war against illegal artisanal refining state and promised financial reward to Council Chairmen who show enough evidence of fighting the menace in their areas.
Lloyd had accused security agencies of aiding and abetting the illegal activities.
