Egi youths disrupt operations of Total E&P Facilities over an alleged Breach of MoU

…Threaten to Shutdown Company’s Gas Plant, OML 58

Business activities at the TOTAL E & P’s facilities have been disrupted by Oil and Gas Landlords, Pipeline Landlords and Host Communities blocked the entrance and exits of the Company at the Egi Clan in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area in Rivers State.

The Protesters are threatening to shutdown the Gas Plant Operators OiL Mining Lease, OML 58 the company in the area and have blocked the entrance and exit gates of their operational sites at Obagi, Ogbogu and Obite Gas Plant preventing staff from gaining access to the facilities.

The anger of host communities is based on an alleged failure of the oil and gas giant to meet its Corporate Social responsibilities and also fulfill its mandates as enshrined in the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, signed between them.

The Protesters are aggrieved that the company has failed to conduct skills acquisition for them in the past two years and has also allegedly failed to released funds to scholarship beneficiaries within the same period.

There is also an allegation that the company is sidelining qualified members of their host communities in it’s employments.
