By Ibrahim Bakare

As a result of the growing concerns on the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the entire world, Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will from Wednesday (1st of April, 2020) shut its Press Centre at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt for an initial period of two weeks.

This is also in compliance with the directive of NUJ National Secretariat putting all activities of the Council on hold for two weeks.

In a statement jointly signed by Stanley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo, Chairman and Secretary respectively, noted that the suspension is in compliance with the directive of the National body of the Union, which directed all state councils to stop congresses and other large gatherings in line with precautionary measures put in place by Federal and State Governments against the spread of the Coronavirus.

The statement advised NUJ members and visitors to stay away from the Press Centre for the duration of two weeks at the first instance.

The Union leadership also urges Journalists in the State to strictly adhere to laid down preventive measures and follow expert advice on Covid-19 prevention.
