93-Years Old Oron Union Elects Janet Amba As First Female President General

It was celebration galore on Sunday 31st December 2017 when Dr. (Mrs) Janet Amba PhD emerged as first female elected President General of the 93-years old Oron Union in Akwa Ibom state. The keenly contested election saw her with 126 votes thus making her the first Oron born woman to be elected as President General of the most revered development oriented Oron Union which was founded in 1925.

 

The Cross River state University of Technology –CRUTECH Calabar graduate Dr (Mrs) Janet Asuquo Amba will on Wednesday 11thof April , 2018 host who is who in Nigeria as she and another son of Oron nation Dr. Engr. Emmanuel Ekuwem the Secretary-To-Akwa Ibom state Government-SSG would formally be received by Oron Nation as worthy citizens of the Socio-cultural association ORON Union as the venue of the reception proper Oron Sports Stadium Akwa Ibom  state will come alive with much of ORON  nation’s traditional dances, cultural display of hospitality and conviviality best known of Oron indigenes and ethnic nationality in Nigeria. The executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state Udom Gabriel Emmanuel will be at the grand reception as the Special Guest of Honour while his predecessor in office Senate Minority Leader Obong Godswill Akpabio will also be present at the auspicious occasion.

Dr. (Mrs) Janet Asuquo Amba is the wife of Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police CP Asuquo Amba this immediately brought about the emergence of Dr. (Mrs) Janet Amba as the Chairperson of Police Officers Wives Association-POWA in Bayelsa state. She is an entrepreneur as she is the Chief Executive Officer of ICON Environmental Cleaners Limited; she has been a Consultant of Global Wealth Trade Incorporation.  Her work experience includes having worked at Exxon Mobil Unlimited and she had been at West African Peoples Institute –WAPI. She also obtained Masters of Business Administration-MBA from University of Agriculture Benue State.

 

The Amazon of Oron Nation Dr. (Mrs) Janet Asuquo AMBA before her election into office was the Vice President General -1 of Oron Union. She succeeded Dr. Effiong Edunam, a former Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom state who is also a university don. And during the December 31st, 2017 election that she won overwhelmingly Dr. Asuquo Anwana was elected Vice President -1, Mr. Edet Amba  also got elected as Vice President-2 while Barrister Ita Okpoyo is the Secretary General of the current Government of Oron Union Akwa Ibom state.

It has been a period of convivial reflection in the life of Oron Union as Dr. (Mrs) Alson Eyakenyi the Chairman Central Planning Committee, Rt. Honourable (Mrs) Alice Ekpenyong Secretary Central Planning Committee and Deaconess (Mrs) Eme Atakpo Chairman Publicity Sub Committee have all put everything in proper perspective to see that the Grand Reception ceremony on Wednesday 11th of April, 2018 remains one of its best in the history of Oron Union as Chairman of the occasion Sir, Ambassador Etim Okpoyo will surely brighten the spirit of Oron nation worldwide.
