Covid-19: Governor Wike distributes foodstuffs to Asari-Toru Local Government area

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Sunday distributed foodstuffs to the 13 wards of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to help the residents cope with the difficulty of staying at home due to the measures in place to check the spread of coronavirus.
Governor Wike distributed to the 13 wards: 1300 bags of rice, 1300 bags of Garri, 13,000 Tubers of Yams , 1300 Cartoons of Pasta and 65 Gallons of Palm Oil.

On hand to receive the foodstuffs were leaders of Asari-Toru Local Government Area led by the Council Chairman, Odiari Princewill, Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Barrister Osima Ginah, Member Representing Asari-Toru Constituency 1, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Granville Wellington and Member Representing Asari-Toru Constituency 2, Rt Hon Enemi George.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Chairman of the Rivers State Covid-19 Palliatives Committee, Ambassador Desmond Akawor said that the foodstuffs are meant for all the residents of the area, irrespective of the party they belong.

Governor Wike said that the state is in a war situation and all efforts must be made to ensure that no less privileged is left out during the sharing of the foodstuffs.

The Governor said that he is reaching out to all communities because hunger does not discriminate against anyone, hence the State Government will never discriminate.

“This Committee was set up to reach out to those who cannot purchase foodstuffs at this time. It is not for the rich. That is why we are sharing the foodstuffs to the people at the ward level.

“The five persons nominated at the ward level, are persons that we believe will reach out to the less privileged,” he said.

The Governor urged the people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to observe the health protocols established to slow down the spread of coronavirus in the state.

He said that the State Government will not tolerate any attempt to divert the foodstuffs. He said anyone identified as being involved in any attempt to divert foodstuffs will be sanctioned.

Special Adviser on Special Projects to the Rivers State Governor, Alabo George Kerley assured the Rivers State Governor that they will carry out his directive by ensuring that the less privileged in their respective wards got the foodstuffs.

Representative of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari kingdom , Alabo Prince Dateme thanked the Rivers State Governor for the foodstuffs to the residents of Asari-Toru Local Government Area.

He said that the people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area are happy that Governor Wike continues to prioritize their welfare despite the economic challenges in the country.

Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Mr Odiari Princewill commended Governor Wike for the quantity of foodstuffs that were distributed to the 13 wards of the Local Government Area.

Rev. Emmanuel Asawo (Ward 1), Chief. Alapudokiari Soberekon. (Ward 11), Chief Tam Princewill (Ward 3) and Most Rev. Dr Dokiboeriya Kala-Dokubo
(Ward 8) thanked Governor Wike for extending palliatives to their constituents.

Donald Lilly Johnbull (Ward 5), Bishop Godknows Ninifeipiri (Ward 2) and Mrs S. Wokoma prayed God to bless Governor Wike for ensuring that the palliatives got to the 13 wards of Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
