Coronavirus: Governor Wike extends foodstuffs to Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Thursday distributed foodstuffs to the less privileged in all the wards of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.

Governor Wike who was represented by the members of yhe Rivers State COVID-19 Palliative Committee said that the foodstuffs are meant to cushion the impact of the sit-at-home directive to all the 11 Wards of the Area.

Speaking during the distribution of the food items at the Council Headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Chairman of the Rivers State COVID-19 Palliative Committee, Ambassador Desmond Akawor represented by a member of the committee and Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hon. Hope Ikiriko urged leaders in charge of various Wards that received the food items to ensure that the foodstuffs are distributed to the less privileged in the LGA.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has provided the sum of 2.billion naira to purchase food items for the less privileged in the State. He has instructed that these food items should be given to the vulnerable, it is not a campaign material, this is not time for campaign, this is the reason why he has offered himself to the serve us,” he said.

He noted that the committee which includes Civil Society Organizations, Media practitioners, is to ensure a proper monitoring, transparency and adequate distribution of the food items to the less privilege in the society.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Water Resources, Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his uncommon show of love to the people of Opobo/Nkoro.

He urged those saddled with the responsibility of distributing the food items to the people in the area to ensure the palliative get to the most vulnerable in the LGA.

Representative of the Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, Alabo Godwin Bupo thanked the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwon Wike for the kind gesture.

He said the people are happy for receiving the palliative from the State Government.

Speaking on behalf of the Clergy in the area, Bishop Emmanuel D.Fubara while commending the Governor for the palliative extended to the people, said it takes ingenuity for a governor to understand the plight and need of the people, particularly at this period of the COVID-19.

Chief Rogers Oroni who spoke on behalf of the people of Nkoro, expressed appreciation to Governor Wike for his magnanimity, adding that the people are grateful for the palliative given to them.

The Women President of Opobo Amaopu-Orubo Felicia S. Pepple, said the fact that Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has come to the aid of the people at this critical and trying moment of the COVID-19 is highly commendable.

She assured the governor that the food items distributed to the people shall get to the less privileged inline with the governor’s directive.

Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Eugene Joshua Jaja said the people of the LGA are grateful to Governor, Nyesom Wike for the kind gesture.

He assured that the people will continue to support the Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led Administration for because of his proactive leadership to the people of Rivers State.
