Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has approved the appointment of Professor Chizindu Alikor as the new Acting Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.
In a statement signed by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ednah Alete, said the appointment is with immediate effect.
The statement stated that Prof Alikor takes over from Dr Friday Aaron who has just completed his five years tenure.
Our Correspondent reports that the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, RSUTH, is the second referral hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in addition to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH. It is also a medical training institution for medical students of the Rivers State University.
Chizindu Alikor, is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and a Consultant Physician and Cardiologist. He was once a Senior Lecturer, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH and Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Rivers State.
Until his elevation as Acting Chief Medical Director, CMD, Alikor, RSUTH, he is the Head of Department, HOD, Internal Medicine of RSUTH who secured accreditation for the Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine of the Rivers State University. He was appointed HOD Internal Medicine of RSUTH in 2021.
