Ogonis stage peaceful protest to NNPC Port Harcourt over resumption of oil operation in Ogoniland

Hundreds of Ogonis stage peaceful protest to NNPC Port Harcourt over resumption of oil operation in Ogoniland under the auspices of Ken Saro Wiwa Associates in the early hours of today, at about 6.30 am, Wednesday, started a peaceful protest to the Zonal Headquarters of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Port Harcourt.
The peaceful protest led by Chief Ganii Todpa, National Coordinator, Ken Saro Wiwa Associates has led to the blockage of the entrance of NNPC office located at Moscow Road, opposite the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, and a whispering distance to the Rivers State Police Command headquarters had some Police men keeping vigil.
According to Topba, NNPC allegedly connived Shell Petroleum Development Company, NNPC, to issue operating licence to Robel Micheal oil Company to drill oil in  Ogoniland without  consent of Ogoni people.

He said their demand is that the licence should be cancelled because the company has issues that needed to be cleared until unresolved issues are cleared and due process followed.
“We were educated by our leader the late Ken Saro Wiwa, taught us to be peaceful and non-violent in our approach to issues concerning our environment and well being.
Some of the placards read: “Robel Micheal oil company leave Ogonniland”, “Shell and NNPC to drill our oil behind our back”, We don’t want Robert Micheal” “No to Shell and its collaborators in Ogoniland” etc.
The group had earlier sent petition to National Assembly on the issue.
