COVID-19: NIGERIANS URGED TO BEWARE OF ADULTERATED NOSE MASKS

By Kazeem Bisiriyu

Nigerians will always remain different in all new developments .no matter how good or bad the situation may be. As the state governors have made it compulsory for all their residents to wear the nose masks beginning from Monday 24th of April, several rush hour designs, stuffs and materials of nose covers or masks have stormed the markets all across the country. It is however sad to notice that even on some roads where people still have the opportunity of catching few means of transportation most especially tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep and motorcycles aka Okada in some places in Lagos, hawkers are seen displaying different types of face masks designed with different colours and clothing materials like ankara etc. If that is weird, then read this. A source hinted our correspondent that he boarded a keke and saw someone hawking the masks at N100 and to Hus surprise one of the passengers opted to buy one and summoned the hawker only for the passenger to sample like 5 of the face masks before picking the 6th one.

This baffles other passengers whose jaws were left dropped. The question is, what happens to the sampled 5. Some innocent people will unknowingly use them? Our source said he has to raise an alarm which attracted a crowd who then forced the hawker to lose her remaining face masks and the buyer inclusive.

The crux of this case is, who knows if the buyer is Covid positive. However, a medical doctor spoken to by our correspondent advised people to ensure they wash the face masks with warm water and allow it to dry properly before making use of it. This is indeed a clarion call to members of the public to be wary of how to get their face masks even as the enforcement day by the government is fast approaching. Compulsory buying of face masks could lead to compulsive buying which is very dangerous and hazardous to the health. Be wary, be safe.
