Covid-19: Governor Wike Inspects Ongoing Construction of 250-bed Isolation Centre in Port Harcourt

By Eric Olusesan

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the State Government has put in place the necessary healthcare facilities to tackle coronavirus in the state.

Addressing journalists after inspecting a 250-bed isolation centre for coronavirus patients in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Wike said that his administration is committed to the wellbeing of Rivers people.

The Governor was accompanied on the inspection by members of the Task Force on Enforcement of the Ban on Public and Religious Gatherings.

“We are here to inspect the ongoing construction of an Isolation Centre for the treatment of cases of coronavirus. This is an additional Isolation centre to the one we have at Eleme in case anything happens.

“But we pray it does not escalate in the state. That is why we are putting all measures to ensure that we restrict coronavirus to what it is presently “, he said.

He said that the construction of additional Isolation centre is a precautionary measure, in case there are more cases in the state.

The Governor noted that the Isolation Centre will be divided into three units: a Male unit, a female unit and an administrative complex for health professionals who administer treatment to the coronavirus patients.

“We thank our partners who have donated this facility to the Rivers State Government. Together, we are working to check the spread of coronavirus.

“The contractors on site have said that the facility will be ready latest on Saturday. We are good to go. The partitioning and equipment process will be completed by Saturday “, he said.
