In just three months into the year 2024, the Southern British High School (SBHS) in Calabar, Cross River State, a fast growing Ivy League school in the South South region of Nigeria has carted home another trophy.
Southern British High School had, three months ago, in December 2023 won the overall best prize in the essay competition organised by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), where it dwarfed over one thousand, two hundred (1200) schools in the country to clinch the N300,000 overall cash prize.
The school clinched the overall best trophy at the National Mathematics competition, organised by Catalyst Consulting Limited, Lagos for select primary, junior and senior secondary schools across the country.
The School, which was represented at the tournament by Miss Ambo Amanda Antigha, a Junior Secondary School Two (JSS 2) student of the school scored all the 50 points at stake to emerge the overall winner of the competition, after defeating six others for the highly coveted prize .
Saint Gregory College, Lagos; Barakat College, Oyo in Oyo State and Loyola Jesuit Memorial College in Rivers State came second, third and fourth respectively.
An elated Executive Director of the School, Dr (Mrs) Oluwaseun Fakorede applauded the students for the victory and making the school proud. Just as she promised that the school will clinch more trophies before the end of this year.
Dr. Fakorede described the victory as well-deserved in view of the competent academic hands paraded by the school, coupled with the cozy and conducive learning environment.
According to her, “the victory is an eloquent testimony of what we are doing in SBHS given our curriculum which is carefully crafted to meet national and global standards in Education.”
With this trophy, the school is now the best Mathematics school in the junior secondary schools category in the country.
The location of the school in a cozy and conducive environment at number 15 Rotimi Amaechi Avenue, off Tinapa Road, Calabar is the ideal place for the all round breeding of future leaders.
