Threat by Niger Delta Avengers, Two Military Fighter Jets Hover Round Palace of
Gbaramatu kingdom in Delta state as the threat of Niger Delta Avengers continues…
Ahead of the call off the ceasefire of Niger Delta Avengers with the federal government and the threat of the militant group to unleash mayhem in the oil rich region, there is report of that Palpable fear on Tuesday gripped the residents of Oporoza the traditional headquarters of
Gbaramatu kingdom, Delta State as two military fighter jets were said have hovered around the town paying a disciplined attention to the palace of the Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom.
Reports have it that the two fighter jets were flown in quick succession at a very low altitude thereby sending the panic-stricken residents to scamper for safety in the nearby forests.
When contacted, the Spokesman of Gbaramatu kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, explained that the fighter jets flew past in quick succession, sending signals to the residents that all was not well.
He added that as a result of this development, many of our residents fled the
community, fearing that the community might be invaded as the military intensified the search for militant group.
Gbenekama, further stated that many of the people who fled to the bush for cover include, children, nursing mothers and pregnant women adding that what the Nigerian military is doing is dehumanizing and therefore condemnable.
He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to halt these incessant harassments of their kinsmen as many of them were already traumatized and finding it difficult to live like normal citizens.
Giving details of what transpired, the spokesperson said that they saw two military helicopters hovering around the palace of the Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom,
He further stated that one of the fighter jets wore the color of the Army while the other is painted in the Navy colour.
He then warned that there is no Avenger in
Gbaramatu kingdom urging the military to withdraw their fighter jets and warships from Gbaramatu kingdom.
“The military should have some respect for traditional institutions. We are peace-loving people, and we will continue to be peaceful.
“Gbaramatu kingdom is not at war with the federal government. I am therefore using this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to withdraw their warships and fighter jets from Gbaramatu kingdom.”, he added
The fear of residents of
Gbaramatu kingdom is not misplaced based on experiences of the past where the military allegedly ransacked the area in search of the elusive Niger Delta Avengers at the heat of their previous havoc on the major crude oil pipelines in the region.
It is widely believed but not confirmed the Niger Delta Avengers are actually the fugitive Mr.Gvernment Ekpemuopolo, popularly known as Tompolo who is facing criminal charges ranging from fraud to money laundering.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) to confirm the operation, was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
