The escape of suspects that accused Senator Dino Melaye of being their sponsor and supplier of arms from Kogi police custody, has landed the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Ali Janga, in trouble as the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered his immediate removal.
Two of the suspects who accused Senator Melaye, Kabiru Saidu a.k.a. Osama and Nuhu Salisu, known as Small, along four others suspects, Aliyu Isa, Adams Suleiman; Emmanuel Audu, and Musa Mohammed, escaped from police custody in the early hours of Wednesday morning, a day they were slated to be arraigned.
But the IGP, who felt embarrassed with the news, has ordered the removal of the state CP in his response to the issue.
He also redeployed the Commander, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state, the Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Lokoja and other police officers fingered in the escape for negligence, dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.
This even as Senator Melaye, who represents Kogi West at the Senate, has vowed to drag the IGP Idris to court on the allegation that the police had either released the suspects, or killed them.
Citing Order 43, Melaye who spoke at the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, challenged the police to produce the suspects dead or alive or that he would be left with no other option than dragged the IGP to court for intimidation, abuse of power, harassment and mental assault.
