Homicide detectives of the Rivers State Police Command are on manhunt for the assassins who shot dead One John Okon from Akwa Ibom inside his Golf 3 Red Wagon Car at Abakiliki by Nanka Street, Mile One, Diobu, Port Harcourt at about 9 pm on Tuesday October,10th, 2023.
Reports have it that John Okon is a mechanic whose workshop is located at Ojike Street by Iliabuchi,Diobu,Port Harcourt but resides at Iwofe,a suburb of Port Harcourt.
The gunmen may not be armed robbers but assassins whose intention was to terminate the life of the deceased accused of dating a the woman who he was with inside Car when the assailants shot him dead.
Sources claim the deceased and top ranking member of one of the street cults in Diobu were laying claim to be rightful lover to the lady who was in car when the assassins attacked.
It is alleged that the deceased had been warned severally to hands off the lady but he refused.
It was further gathered tha after the gunmen shot him at pointblank range, the leader of gang asked another to confirm if he was dead before they fled the scene without harming the female companion.
Further information revealed that the wife of the deceased is heavily pregnant.
Intelligence sources also indicate that the deceased and female lover where always meeting at the particular spot almost every night.
The latest reports however, the woman who was with John Okon when he was shot dead voluntarily reported herself to the Mile One Police Division, Diobu this morning, Wednesday, October 11.
She has denied dating the deceased as a lover claiming that the late John Okon was her her neighbour and he just gave her a lift to that place he was shot.
She claimed that she is a married woman.
She admitted that the late man’s wife called her one certain time accusing her of dating her late husband.
After making her entries at the Mile One Police Division,she has been detained and her case maybe transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID of the Command.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko had no reacted to the tragic incident when contacted.
