Local Govt. Chairman uncovers illegal mortuary with dead bodies of kidnap victims in Rivers, Plus photos

 *State hospital converted to depot for illegally refined petroleum products.

Chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Lloyd in Rivers on Wednesday busted an illegal mortuary with decomposed bodies of dead kidnapped victims in Elele-Alimini community General Hospital in Rivers.

Also uncovered is that parts of the State General Hospital serves as depot for the illegally refined Petroleum products by illegal artisanal refiners.

Acting on a tip off on criminal activities along old Ahoada road in Elele-Alimini, Dr Lloyd who was accompanied by a combined team of security personnel and the local government Taskforce on illegal artisanal refining on Wednesday stormed Elele-Alimini general hospital to find out it was in disuse and abandoned.

The Council chairman was told that the mortuary was where kidnap victims who died through torture,hunger and gunshots in the hollows custody of their abductors are usually deposited inside Elele-Alimini general hospital.

Reacting to the weird and chilling revelations, Dr Lloyd wondered why the leadership of Elele-Alimini community allowed such atrocious business in the community, stressing that such evil activity could not have been going on without the involvement of the some stakeholders, traditional rulers and elders in the community.

Irked by the number of already decaying corpseses deposited inside a particular building in the hospital, the council chairman ordered the security personnel to search the entire hospital, during which the syndicate and illegal occupant of the hospital were apprehended in their hideout.

The Council Chairman also effected the arrest of some perpetrators of the illegal oil bunkering intercepted in course of the operation.

Disappointed with the level of environmental degradation caused by the illegal oil bunkering activities on the large large expanse of land, the council chairman ordered for the immediate investigation and prosecution of the arrested suspects to establish the ownership of the oil bunkering sites.

The council chairman and his team also effected the arrest of two drivers who were caught transporting illegally refined petroleum products at Rumuekpe junction along the East-West road
