Killings: Christians stage nationwide protest Sunday

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will on

Sunday stage a protest across the country over the

killings in the country.

The protest is coming against the background of

the killing on Tuesday of Rev. Fr Joseph Gor, Rev.

Fr Felix Tyolaha and 17 worshippers of St. Ignatius

Quasi Parish, Ukpor-Mbalom, Gwer East LGA of

Benue State.

CAN will also during the protest, pray for the

freedom of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi school girls

still being held by Boko Haram and the Chibok

school girls.

However, the association said the protest would be

a peaceful one and held in all the churches across

the country.

The decision of the body to embark on the protest

was made public in a statement by Pastor Bayo

Oladeji, media aide to CAN President, Rev. Samson

Ayokunle.

Describing the killings as despicable, the group

said the protest which would hold in every

church’s premises would be to ask the Federal

Government and the security agencies to stop the

killings.

CAN said Christians would carry placards on

Sunday with inscriptions to express their feelings

about the spate of killings and failure of the

government to put an end to the problem.

Some of the inscriptions, CAN said, would

read:  Enough of bloodshed in Nigeria; Enough of

unlawful killings in the country; FG, release Leah

Sharibu from bondage; FG, Stop Herdsmen Killings

and CAN reject insecurity.

While calling on Nigerians to continue to pray for

peace in the country, CAN also called for special

prayers for the parents and relations of the school

children kidnapped by Boko Haram.
