An illegal “one room apartment school” run by Senior Police Officer shut in Port Harcourt, the school allegedly run in a bedroom apartment by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, (names withheld) located at Kolokuma street, Borokiri in Port Harcourt metropolis was today shutdown by the Rivers State Government.
The school’s name was given as “Godsfavour Nursery and Primary School” was holed in an unconducive environment not suitable for teaching and learning with a handful of pupils.
A state government team led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr Dagogo Hart, explained to Journalists that the acting on a tip off from well meaning Nigerians, the Commissioner for Education, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, ordered that the “school” be shut because of the inhuman conditions pupils were subjected to.
It was also found out the the apartment was officially allocated to the DSP for accommodation in the Police quarters.
Although the said “Proprietor” was not around when the state government swooped on the illegal school, one of the Teachers claimed that the said apartment was not used as school but for conducting Lessons. But the handful pupils seen were in school uniforms.
The Permanent Secretary, Dagogo Hart, said the state government will spare no efforts in ridding the state of substandard and unapproved school in the state.
