#ENDSARS: Victims submit 171 Petitions to Judicial Commission of Inquiry starts sitting in Port Harcourt

171 petitions have been received by the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry on alleged acts of Violence, Torture, Brutality, Murder and Violation of Fundamental Human Rights of citizens by men and operatives of the Nigerian Police.

Chairman of the Commission, Justice Chukwunenye Uriri (Rtd) disclosed this during an opening remark at the inaugural sitting of the panel at the Obi Wali Conference Centre,Port Harcourt.

The petitions are from victims of alleged Police Brutality in Rivers State.

Inaugural Sitting of Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry on alleged acts of Violence, Torture, Brutality, Murder and Violation of Fundamental Human Rights of 

Justice Uriri (rtd), said the Commission will be sitting daily from 10am throughout the duration of it’s mandate.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Port Harcourt, Prince Onyekwere, speaking at the inaugural sitting of the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry on alleged Police Brutality said inquiry was not only targeted at the Police. 

“It is for bad governance as well. So this panel ought to approach these matters with seriousness because we have great expectations. We trust that this Commission will unravel the alleged atrocities meted on innocent Nigerians by operatives of the disbanded SARS”.
