Dr. Bagshaw Steven, Senior Medical Doctor with UPTH kidnapped in Rivers

*Contact wife of victim, as NMA mobilize for total shutdown of medical facilities in Rivers

A Senior Medical Doctor working with University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital ( UPTH), Dr. Bagshaw Steven has been kidnapped.

Dr. Steven, a Senior Registrar with Rivers State Government in Plastic Surgery Department undergoing Posting in UPTH was said to have been  kidnapped at the gate of his residence, close to GTB Rumuokoro on his way back from work on Saturday Night, 11th December by 9.45p.m. 

In an online security alert  posted by the Secretary, Nigerian Medical Association,(NMA) Rivers State branch, Dr. Hope Owhondaa Avundaa said:

“Goodmorning Members of NMA Congress, we regret to inform the house of the sad incident of Kidnap of our colleague, Dr. Bagshaw, Steven, Senior Registrar with Rivers State Government, in Plastic Surgery Department undergoing Posting in UPTH.”

He said the kidnap incident was reported to have occurred at the gate of his residence, close to GTB Rumuokoro on his way back from work on Saturday Night, 11th December  by 9.45p.m.

NMA secretary in the state said the Association has reached out to security agents, State Director DSS, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon and ACP Operations.

He revealed that the abductors of Dr. Bagshaw, Steven, Senior have already contacted the wife of the victim. He however did not state amount of their ransom demand made to the family.

The NMA Rivers State branch Secretary, said: “we are also laising and supporting the wife as she interfaces with the kidnappers as family has been contacted”.

Our Correspondent reports that the NMA Rivers State, Secretary, Dr Hope Owhondaa Avundaa has announced that the association mobilizing and preparing to implement NMA  anti-kidnap protocol that will lead to total shutdown of all medical facilities in the State in protest against the abduction of one the colleague and member.

Dr. Hope Owhondaa Avundaa  encourage members to be safety conscious and take appropriate security measures within this period.

At the time of filing this report the Rivers State Police Command has not reacted to the kidnap incident.
