Court sentences man to death for robbery, child theft

High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has has sentenced to death one Promise Thompson in Rivers State, for armed robbery and child theft.
The residing Judge, Justice Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku heard that Thompson and his accomplice, one Beatrice Ogbunka, were standing trial on three counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, child theft, shooting one Chidiebere Ogbugu before stealing his five-year-old child.
The prosecution told the Court that the incident occurred on October 25, 2018, in Rumuolumeni, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. But Beatrice jumped bail and escaped from the Police to avoid prosecution.
Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku, in his judgment, said the prosecution counsel proved that Promise Thompson took the infant to Abia State and sold him to a syndicate that also sold the boy to another syndicate.
Henry-Aprioku also sentenced one Queen Chisom Lucky to seven years imprisonment, while her husband, Mr. Lucky bagged a ten-year sentence for child theft, for buying the child from Promise and selling him off afterwards.
